READER Q & A:
There’s no registration of handguns in Washington, but does that mean I, as an individual gun owner, can post it on Craigslist? Do I have to report the sale in any way?
There is no federal law requiring you to report anything, I am not sure about state law. As long as the buyer is legally allowed to own firearms, you should be fine. You may want to look into whether or not your state would hold you liable if he turns out to be a felon or other prohibited person.

All guns can be sold to any person that is legal to own a firearm. A person can not be a felon. If a gun is bought buy john doe at a gun shop that gun is registered to him. He can sell that gun to frank smith without registering it. then Frank smith can sell the gun to John McCdonald. The gun is still registered to John Doe, but John McCdonald owns the gun. If you sell a gun without having a person register it a bill of sale is recommended in case the weapon is ever used in a crime. I recommend that people should register the guns they use for hunting or using.
You may not sell to a person who you know can’t possess a firearm. That is the only restriction in Washington state.
Craigslist doesn’t like people posting guns. Use http://www.OutdoorsTrader.com instead.
