I am looking for a semi-auto handgun primarily used for target shooting. I want it to have more power than a 22LR yet still be economical to shoot. I looked at the High Standard AMT 22 WMR, but it is not legal for sale in Maryland. I am also looking at the Tokarev in 7.62×25. Not looking for a 9mm, already have a 10mm and .40, looking for something “different”. Any other suggestions?
If you want something more than a .22LR that is cheap to shoot I’d look for a 9mm. The problem with the Tokarev, as I see it, is ammo supply it tends to come and go. Most of what is currently on the market is surplus. While it is cheap right now it won’t last forever. There are a few companies making new ammunition but it cost more than 9mm.
It is going to depend on what type of “different” you want. Is the reason you are looking for something else to reduce your cost to plink? Do you reload? If you reload, I would go with a .45 The reload supplies needed for the .45 are the most ecconomical. I have heard the M&P .45 is SWEET! You could try that.

I like the .327 because it will shoot the .32 short the .32 long, the .32 H&R Mag and the .327. So you can go from approx 700 feet per second to 1400 or so.

This will get thumbs downed for sure, but 32acp is still around 12 bucks a box of 50, cases are cheaper. You want a fun little plinking round? 32acp just might fit the bill.
CZ50's are awesome little guns chambered for 32acp. Fairly inexpenisve, between 125 to 300 depending on condition.

If you handload, you'd save a ton of money, those cartridges use very little powder, so instead of a pound of powder lasting you 1200 rounds for like a 40sw, you'd get close to 3000 rounds out of a pound for 32acp. Projectiles are cheaper too, less material to make one.
Andy's right , the tokarev is a hell of a gun, but the way ammo is going up it cant last forever. But it's a good conceal carry gun!

Any 9mm semi would be good choice; the recoil is manageable, and though more expensive than 22lr bricks the ammo isn't outrageously priced. By the time you look at the 22mag cost, or a .38 or .380 you are already at 9mm costs.
